Tadika Bethany Montessori kindergarten holds its sports carnival day in May every year. This event is for the children to have a fun day with the focus on promoting physical activity and healthy competition.
In the three weeks leading up to the sports carnival day, the teachers prepare the children for the various competitions. This is to build motor skills. All the age groups in both schools of United Garden and Sri Sentosa are involved in the competitions. All the competitions involve team work, besides speed.
The event begins with a march pass from all the children followed by the singing of the school song and Negaraku. The younger age groups like 3-year and 4-year old children have simpler race competitions whereas the 5-year and 6-year old children have more challenging ones. Typical competitions involve relays, ball control, balancing, water transfers, obstacle course, etc. The teachers and parents cheer on the children as they each rush to complete their leg of the competition.
Tadika Bethany Montessori kindergarten does not forget the parents and also the siblings. There are competitions for the parents and the siblings so that they are not left out. The spirit of competition should be in the old and young alike. A competitive spirit bodes well for every human being in both studies and career.
For the children and various age groups, there are about 12 race competitions. In each race competition, the winning team members takes home medals. At the end, the scores for the various teams (classes) are tallied to find out the overall champion team that would receive the trophy and also a hamper.
Overall, everybody has fun. The children experience feelings of team spirit and the value of supporting and appreciating the skills of all competitors.
